A new update for Amped DVRConv has just landed! Amped DVRConv is the batch converter of choice for forensic video practitioners and CCTV investigators alike, enabling quick and quality preserving batch conversions of proprietary video formats into a compatible open format. It is empowered by the same conversion engine used by Amped Replay and Amped FIVE, but unlike its big sisters, it also performs batch conversion of different formats by using a simple and effective drag and drop and/or watch folder architecture; ideal for those of you in need to convert a large quantity of CCTV coming from several different sources. It can ‘watch’ directories for incoming multimedia files, parameters can be set for all files, or individual settings can be made for specific tasks. And with new CCTV formats being identified daily, it’s important for us to get these to you quickly, ensuring your investigations can be completed quicker and easier.
We have been working hard to support a number of user-submitted proprietary video files over the past few months so we have decided to get these into a new Amped DVRConv update to quickly benefit all users.
For those people not familiar with DVRConv, this is the stand-alone conversion tool that utilizes the powerful Amped Conversion Engine. Conversion is a small (but important) part when using Amped FIVE or Amped Replay but with Amped DVRConv, it is the sole purpose.
Format and codec conversion is a huge part of any video lab’s workload. Day after day, there is a requirement to extract video data from proprietary formats and perhaps convert files for playback in standard players. Although seamlessly integrated into all our video applications, having this video conversion ability as a stand-alone product can dramatically speed up triage and batch processing. That’s exactly where Amped DVRConv fits in.
With the simplicity of drag and drop conversion, it is no surprise that Amped DVRConv is used by so many labs to conduct quick and easy conversion for viewing and triage. Using the same powerful decoding, cleaning and conversion engine that powers Amped Replay and Amped FIVE, this standalone tool can be a powerhouse to prepare files for analysis in a streamlined forensic workflow.
Before we get down to the details of what is included in this update, we will take a more in-depth look at the workflow of DVRConv. Let’s first take a quick look at the initial setup to remind ourselves of the interface before going into more detail.

In today’s update, we have added more formats that DVRConv can reliably convert for you as well as introducing H.264 quality settings which we have been recently rolling out to our other software packages.
H.264 Quality
In Update 16112 of Amped FIVE, we introduced the following quality settings for exporting H.264 video through the video writer:
Default = Good quality, high compatibility, low file size
High = High quality, high compatibility, medium file size
Visually Lossless = Best quality, high compatibility, high file size
In today’s update, we have now enabled these quality settings within DVRConv.
To choose the quality settings for H.264, simply access the program options from the DVRConv interface and select your preferred option.
We continue to add new formats with every update and today’s update is no exception. Remember that you can always view the hundreds of formats we currently support and that we have recently added, by clicking on the Help button within DVRConv.
