Building on the success of our previous Amped FIVE update, we’ve revamped the bookmarking feature! Now, you can effortlessly export multiple types of bookmarks at once, and enhance your report generation.
But that’s not all! We’ve also improved the motion detection and audio redaction features, plus you can now convert and export proprietary video in a more compatible format.

Export Multiple Bookmarks for the Same Frame
As you know, in Amped Replay you can enhance and annotate video clips easily and efficiently. So when it comes to creating bookmarks, you can now choose how to best present them. It is now possible to export up to three bookmarks per single frame – original, enhanced and/or annotated. This could be extremely useful for your workflow as it offers many possibilities regarding how you present and report your evidence. For example, you can now export unprocessed bookmarks to add a viewing log to your report. And, at the same time, you can bookmark a selected number of enhanced and/or annotated frames to highlight events, objects or subjects of interest.
Simply navigate with your play head to any frame you wish to bookmark and click on the Add/Edit Bookmark button on the player panel. Then click the same button again to open the Bookmarks & Descriptions pop-up window. You will now see three sections, each featuring a tick box and text box. If you tick “Play”, you will bookmark the current frame as it is, with no enhancements or annotations. If you tick “Enhance” and/or “Annotate” you will bookmark the frame with any enhancement and/or annotations you have applied in the corresponding tabs.

You can tick any combination of bookmarks, up to three per single frame. These can then be exported at once from the Export tab and they will all be added to your report, if you opt to generate one. And, for each bookmark, you can add a unique description in the corresponding free text box, which will be printed in your report along with the bookmarks. How cool is that? You will also have the option to set the bookmarking order in your report. For example, you may want to illustrate the bookmarks chronologically, or by type (tab). To do this, simply click on the Program Options (gear icon at the top right of the program), then navigate to the Export menu and select the appropriate option in the relevant drop-down menu.

Motion Detection Improvements
The Motion Detection tool has not been around for long in Amped Replay. However, it is already proving to be really helpful in many investigations involving long CCTV footage. This is why we continue to make improvements, so that it gets better and better with every update. With this release, we have changed the range of the motion detection threshold slider. The maximum value will now adaptively match the maximum motion detected when running the analysis.

This means that you can now make more appropriate and precise adjustments when selecting the most appropriate threshold for motion events. In turn, this will provide better results by filtering out false positives and ensuring the relevant events are not missed.
Audio Redaction Improvements
We also continue to make improvements to the Audio Redaction tool. It has been around for longer than the Motion Detection tool, and proving equally helpful in many cases. With this release, you can now expand an audio redaction interval to visually stretch it out in the top audio waveform bar. You can do so simply by double-clicking on the highlighted redaction interval with the mouse.

This will facilitate the editing and trimming of an existing redaction as the zoomed-out view will allow for frame-by-frame adjustments. To facilitate both the extension and reduction of the endings, there will be a little slack at either side of the zoomed-in redaction. When you have finished fine-tuning the redaction interval, simply double click on it with the right mouse button to reset the waveform zoom.
MKV Conversion and Export
Some of you may be aware that when you drag proprietary CCTV video into Amped Replay, it first goes through a process of data analysis and stream extraction performed by the Amped Engine. Then, the extracted stream is re-wrapped into a compatible container. Occasionally, if the stream cannot be re-wrapped as it is, it will be transcoded instead. The default container for this process has now been changed to the MKV (developed by Matroska) as this has proven to be a far more reliable and robust format than its AVI predecessor over the years. Because some older video codecs are not compatible with the more modern MKV container, when this fails, the program will automatically revert back to the AVI container.
We have also changed the “Export Original Video as AVI” option in the Export tab to “Export Original Video as MKV”. This will ensure more success and fewer decoding errors when you just need to copy-stream the original video or a portion of the video for external usage.

Formats
In this update, we have added support for many new formats and variants! More specifically:
- 6 new supported formats
- 27 new variations of already-supported formats
- 1 new variation of an already-supported timestamp format
Remember: if you find a video file we don’t fully support, then there is a good chance we have never seen it before! Hop over to the Amped Support Portal, upload it, and we will get on it. While doing that, make sure to provide as much information as possible about the DVR’s brand and model, and possibly provide the proprietary player if available. Submitting new formats not only helps you out but the entire Amped community. The best part? This is all included in an active Software and Maintenance Support plan.
