Quite often urban surveillance systems don’t lead the image quality you expected while doing the project of the system. Most common issues are due to:
- too high compression during transmission or storage
- bad weather or low light conditions
- speed and position of subjects with respect to the camera
In the last years we have see an improvement in the overall quality of the footage, but it is never enough and we always want to get more information on the crime scene. Even Megapixel or HD video may not be enough, for example if the scene is very dark or the subject is far away from the camera.
The good news is that FIVE, our software for the clarification of videos for investigative applications, works better if the quality is higher.
Thanks to this need to always obtain better information from video surveillance (and our partnership con Milestone) FIVE has been widely adopted in municipalities of every size. In this way it’s possible to gather more information from existing cameras and movies: local and specialized police forces can have a new effective tool that can make more valuable the existing surveillance infrastructure.
Below you can see a sample application of a video taken in low light conditions: in the original you can’t see almost anything, while in the processed the license plate is perfectly readable.
